Estrogens

Estrogen is not a single hormone, but a family of hormones produced by your body.  There are at least two-dozen estrogens, but the three most important are: Estrone (E1), Estradiol (E2), and Estriol (E3).  Estrogen is produced primarily by your ovaries, but also by fat cells, muscle cells, and skin.  These three main types of estrogen—estrone, estradiol, and estriol—have different properties and are produced in different amounts at different stages in your life.  In customized Hormone Replacement Therapy, these hormones are often prescribed in combination to re-establish a normal physiological balance.
