Flu shots Due to the high mutability of the virus, a particular vaccine formulation usually only works for about a year. It's good to get flu shots annually to protect against the most prevalent flu strains that year. Vaccination against influenza with a flu vaccine is strongly recommended for high-risk groups, such as children and the elderly. Medicare typically covers cost of the flu shot which The Medicine Shoppe can bill for you.

Pneumonia The Pneumococcal Vaccine is recommended for all healthy individuals older than 65 and any adults with emphysema, congestive heart failure, diabetes mellitus, cirrhosis of the liver, alcoholism, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, or those who do not have a spleen. Medicare also will cover the cost of this vaccine in individuals age 65 or older.

Shingles Vaccine If you have ever had the chickenpox, you’re at risk for Shingles—and your chances of developing Shingles increase substantially after the age of 60. The Zostavax vaccine (Shingles) is recommended for individuals over the age of 50. Shingles can be very painful and debilitating and some people can experience long-term nerve pain that can last for 6 months or even years. Many insurances will cover the cost or part of the cost of the shingles vaccine. Ask your doctor if the Zostavax vaccine is right for you. This can be administered by our pharmacist who has had specialized training.
