I am interested in starting on the Customized Hormones. How do I get started? At the Custom Compounding Center, we can give you information you need through books and websites, so you can become informed about BHRT (Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy). We recommend you initially talk to your prescriber about BHRT. Some prescribers may not be familiar with BHRT and do not feel comfortable writing a prescription for BHRT. Our compounding pharmacist can work closely with your prescriber to find the correct dosage that will help restore hormonal balance. |
How does BHRT compare to synthetic hormone replacement therapy?
Bio-Identical hormones are hormones recognized by your body as being identical to what it would normally produce. These hormones are plant derived and altered in a lab so they are identical to your natural hormones. Synthetic hormone replacement uses man-made chemicals to try and imitate your body's own hormones. For women suffering from symptioms of hormonal imbalance, BHRT can be seen as an alternative to synthetic hormone replacement therapy.
Will my insurance cover the cost of BHRT?
We do not submit electronic insurance claims for your compounded prescription. However, we can provide you with an universal claim form that has been completed by the pharmacist and can be sent to your insurance company for reimbursement. It is advisable that you call your insurance company first to see if compounded hormones are covered under your policy if you want to be reimbursed by them.
What is the cost of compounded BHRT?
Generally, the cost for a one month supply of individualized bio-identical hormones is $35.00 - $50.00. This price can include several different hormones combined into one dosage form such as a capsule or cream.
